Tuesday night will be frigid. Bone-chilling air is over the region with temperatures plunging to 10 degrees overnight. Skies will be mostly clear to partly cloudy allowing plenty of heat to radiate to space. With the wind blowing 6 to 14 mph, wind chills will be near zero or below in the wee hours of Wednesday and at dawn.

Wednesday morning will start with partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies. The commute to work and school will be relatively dry, but scattered light snow arrives shortly after the drive. Light snow will fall through lunchtime, and many neighborhoods will receive at least an inch of new snow by 1:00 p.m. ET.

Heavier, steadier, more widespread snow arrives after 1:00 p.m. ET for the afternoon commute and Wednesday evening. Highways and streets become much more hazardous to drive on, and sidewalks will be very tricky for pedestrians. Visibility lowers quickly and some neighborhoods could experience power outages.

By the end of Wednesday night, a solid 3 to 7 inches will fall over much of Southeast Michigan with isolated spots receiving 8 inches. Areas south of I-94 (Lenawee and Monroe Counties) will get 3 to 5 inches. Towns between I-94 to the south and M-59/Hall Road to the north will receive 4 to 8 inches. 3 to 6 inches is possible north of M-59/Hall Road.

It remains frigid Wednesday night and Thursday. Temps in the teens by morning and in the low 20s in the afternoon. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny with scattered flurries.

Friday will have snow showers and highs in the upper 20s.

Saturday will be partly sunny and not as cold. Highs in the low 30s.
