Weekend weather looks bright but blustery on Friday

Blue skies with cold, blustery conditions on call for the weekend

DETROIT – Friday afternoon will be a beautiful-looking day, but it will not feel warm without dressing in layers.

Blue skies will be overhead, but temps will stay in the 20s with wind speeds of 15 to 25 mph knocking wind chills down into the single digits and teens.

To avoid turning blue from the cold and wind, make sure you and your family wear hats, scarves, gloves and layers underneath outerwear.

The silver lining is that a solid snow pack remains with temperatures staying below freezing.

Skiers, sledding hill seekers and snowmobile drivers will have a ball today and this weekend.

The weather is a good time for ice skating in Detroit at Campus Martius.

Cold weather safety:

If you use space heaters, keep them away from anything flammable and make sure they do not get knocked over accidentally.

Fireplace owners make sure the flues are before a fire and always make sure open fires are completely extinguished before going to bed.

This weekend:

  • Friday night will be fair and breezy with lows in the teens. Temps will not be as cold during the day with highs near 30 and winds calming down.
  • Saturday will become partly sunny.
  • Sunday will be cloud with on and off snow showers providing an extra half inch or so coating of snow.
