Wet, stormy Saturday ahead for Metro Detroit

Highs near 80 degrees

DETROIT - I hope you have a good memory, because if you remember the past several days, that's what today will be like. Scattered thunderstorms start popping up early this afternoon, and then dwindle around 8 to 9 p.m.

Many of us will have a dry day, but those who do get one of the thunderstorms will face lightning and heavy rain for a while (these will be slow moving soakers moving at only 10 mph), and even the possibility for some small hail (pea to dime size looks to be the average). Let's hope they stay away from Michigan Stadium, which will have a sell-out crowd to watch Real Madrid take on Manchester United in a big international soccer game right here in Metro Detroit!

Highs will be near 80 with very light and variable wind.

Once today's storms fizzle out early this evening, skies will become mostly clear overnight. Those of you who get a storm today may get some patchy fog tonight. Those of us who don't probably won't see any meaningful fog. Lows will fall into the upper 50s to low 60s.

Sunday looks to have a much smaller chance for an afternoon thunderstorm. While an isolated pop-up isn't impossible, I think that will be the exception rather than the rule. Otherwise, look for mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, with highs in the low to mid 80s.

It will be mostly clear Sunday night with lows in the low to mid 60s.

Monday returns us to the scattered afternoon thunderstorm pattern, with highs in the low 80s.

Thunderstorms are possible again on Tuesday (perhaps a more widespread opportunity), with highs in the mid to upper 70s.

Any lingering thunderstorms first thing Wednesday morning (best chance is south of 8 Mile Road) should end, with skies becoming mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 70s.

Thursday and Friday look great, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 80 to perhaps the low 80s.
