Winter weather advisory in Metro Detroit: Next round of snow tonight

It's been a messy, wintry start to the day around Southeast Michigan, with a bit of everything in play. We aren't out of the woods, yet.

Snow, ice, freezing rain and eventually rain will continue moving through Metro Detroit through Wednesday morning.

Here are the current advisories in effect:

  • Ice Storm Warning -- Lenawee and Monroe counties until noon Tuesday
  • Winter Storm Warning -- North of I-69 until noon Wednesday
  • Winter Weather Advisory - Metro Detroit until 3 p.m. Wednesday

Tuesday midday temps are still around freezing as the moisture dries up through noon, so still some icy conditions for a bit. Mid afternoon temps will get into the mid or even upper 30s helping to melt the crusty and slushy conditions and another round of rain showers will help that too.

Expect rain showers to come back into Metro Detroit around 4pm and slow down the evening drive but it will help to melt this ice storm away.

Next wave

Our next wave of dangerous weather will be heavier bands of snow late tonight and overnight as the cold and back side of this storm moves through. Some snow squalls are possible overnight and through the morning hours for all of SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario making travel tricky here and there.

Some of today's wet weather will also lead to some patchy ice. Snow showers end around lunch time tomorrow with some spotty accumulation and afternoon sun mixed with clouds. It will be cold and windy all day long with 20s feeling like single digits.

Thursday and beyond

Valentine's Day Thursday will be mild and dry to start with a chance for rain and snow by late afternoon or evening. Highs have a chance of hitting 40 which means mainly rain as you head out to dinner and then light snow Friday morning. Another snow maker comes in Sunday afternoon capable of dropping a few inches.
