Metro Detroit under Winter Weather Advisory until noon

By Brandon Roux - Meteorologist, Segment Reporter/Producer

DETROIT - The Winter Weather Advisory this morning is for all of us south of M 59 and will continue through the morning hours.

Snow is coming down at a good clip and the roads are in rough shape so it will take you plenty of extra time on the commute and conditions will be hazardous. Snow showers become lighter through the mid to late morning as morning lows in the mid to upper 20s climb into the low and mid 30s.

Check: Traffic Map

This means any residual moisture may become a wintry mix at times midday. The winds WSW 5-15 mph will make it feel cooler and could keep our moisture as all snow and a general 2-4” of snow expected around Metro Detroit when all is said and done Tuesday.

Check: School Closings

Wednesday becomes dry with mostly cloudy skies becoming partly cloudy at times. The winds will be picking up WSW 10-20 mph at times which could bring an isolated lake effect snow showers or flurries in here through the day. Again, we expect mostly dry conditions around SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario with highs again in the mid 30s.

We will have cooler air pouring in the rest of the work and school week Thursday through the weekend. We will actually get into a little bit of sunshine on those days with no snow chances but cool in the teens and 20s.

Early model data calls for afternoon snow showers Super Bowl Sunday here around Detroit but it looks light. We’ll let you know if that changes, but the heavier snow or wintry mix will be to our south. You can stay ahead of the rain and when the snow returns with the Local4Casters app and take the weather with you.
