Judge enraged by evidence adds additional charges in Dearborn sexual assault case

Incident revolves around horrific attack on two elderly sisters

DEARBORN, Mich. – A Metro Detroit judge was so horrified by the details laid out in his courtroom that he charged the defendant with additional crimes.

The incident revolves around the horrific attack on two elderly sisters in Dearborn in March by a man also accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old that same day.

Michael Holcomb was in court on Friday (May 3) for a preliminary hearing where he added two additional charges of assault with intent to murder and a further count of unlawful imprisonment.

“In her mind, she believed that the only thing that was going to happen after she was put in the basement was that she was going to die by the hands of the man who spent hours beating her helpless sister to a pulp,” said 19th District Court Judge Mark Somers.

Somers, after being presented with the horrific evidence against Holcomb during a day-long preliminary exam, became enraged about the attacks of the 85 and 78-year-old sisters back on March 17.

Prosecutors have accused Holcomb of forcing his way into the sister’s home, beating them, and assaulting them in the most violent and violating way.

One sister was on the witness stand Friday for an hour, reliving the unthinkable torture.

At the end of the exam, Somers was shocked, disgusted, and horrified by what was done to the sisters.

“It’s beyond clear that she was put in the basement for a purpose, and she was told not to leave,” Somers said.
