Company to eliminate second shift at Hamtramck

DETROIT – General Motors Co. has sent layoff notices to 1,300 workers in Michigan.

The company plans to eliminate the second shift at the Hamtramck plant because demand for passenger cars has slowed, officials said.

GM announced Monday the temporary closures of five factories in hopes of reducing car inventory.
