ST. IGNACE, Mich. – Thousands are expected to take part in a Michigan Labor Day tradition by walking across the Mackinac Bridge.
Governor Rick Snyder and Lt. Gov. Brian Calley will lead the event, which starts 7 a.m. on the north side of the nearly 5-mile-long span.

Buses will be available in Mackinaw City to take people across the bridge to St. Ignace to begin the walk.
The walk begins in St. Ignace, at the north end of the Mackinac Bridge in the Upper Peninsula and ends in Mackinaw City at the south end of the Lower Peninsula.
About 40,000 people usually participate, but more than 65,000 people are expected this year.
It's the only time of year when the bridge linking Michigan's Lower and Upper peninsulas is open to pedestrians.
