WESTLAND, Mich. - A fund-raising event is taking place to benefit the family of Brian Woehlke, the Westland firefighter who lost his life in a building fire last month.

Registration starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday for a night of bowling and other activities at Vision Lanes on Ford and Hix roads in Westland.

A $20 donation provides for bowling, pizza, pop and tickets for prizes; all for a very good cause.

Woehlke was killed battling a fire that consumed a portion of a strip mall on Wayne Road. He died from smoke inhalation, soot inhalation and thermal injuries, according to the Wayne County Morgue.

He was also the first firefighter to be lost in the line of duty in the Wayne-Westland Fire Department's 47-year history.

If you can't make the event you can still donate online at the Fallen Firefighter Brian Woehlke Charity Fund.
