Detroit kids have chance to take swim classes on Belle Isle

DETROIT – An organization that provides free swim lessons to children in Detroit is expanding to Belle Isle.

Detroit Swims currently offers the 8-week lessons at the Boll Family YMCA -- but beginning Saturday, June 20, and Wednesday, June 24, a select number of students will have the chance to learn to swim at the Belle Isle beach.

There are 60 spots still available for kids to sign up. 

Detroit Swims swim lessons are free, and open to Detroit residents ages 8-13 only. The Y provides swim suits, caps, and goggles.

Parents or guardians may register in person at the Boll Family YMCA at 1401 Broadway in Detroit.

Registration is limited.  

Water Safety Days will be June 20, July 14, July 28, and August 9, 2015 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will include snacks, prizes, demonstrations and hands on fun activities for families interested in aquatic activities and water safety. Water Safety Days are free, no pre-registration is required, and activities are open to all children and families regardless of residency.
