DETROIT - Saturday volunteers in Detroit will distribute food, organize a local food pantry and clothing closet, paint area homes, spruce up local parks, assist in neighborhood cleanup and more.
This community event is organized by 82 local United Methodist churches.
Hands 4 Detroit is an annual one day service and community building day. Serving both Detroit and Pontiac with over 40 project sites, we will rake, clean, garden, replace and build as we nurture new and old relationships with our neighbors across the Metro-Detroit and Pontiac area
"We all know the recent economic downturn has been especially tough on Detroit, but Motown is our town," said the Rev. Melanie Carey, event coordinator. "It's a place rich with culture, pride, heritage and possibility. If we all lend a hand, we can help alleviate the worry and uncertainty which thousands of individuals, families and children face who hunger for basic necessities like enough food to eat. Hands4Detroit is a celebration of service and love, and an opportunity to come together to create a better city for all of us."
