DETROIT – The Kwanza celebration will be held Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.
Kwanza, an annual celebration that honors seven life defining principles found in African traditions by Dr. Maulana Karenga, will cover all principles, but will focus on Ujamaa, cooperative economics.
The celebration will have music, fashion, visual art, photography and Khary Frazier, a Detroit-based hip-hop artist, will hold his first hip-hop performance in two years anchored by a live band.
Frazier is a creator of community events and uses his music as a social platform for change.
A fashion show of African wears will also be presented by Sankofa Arts, as well as a collection of Devin Laster's art.
The celebration will feature food from Taste of Ethiopia. An open forum will also be held about family building and development.
