Living Skills Residential Centers was one of 250 nonprofit organizations that were named finalists in the third year of Toyota's 100 Cars for Good philanthropic program.
To participate in the program, registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations from across the country submitted their stories and how new vehicles would support their work.
When submitting their story for consideration, the L.S.R.C. wrote:
"The vehicle would be used to enhance the lives of citizens with disabilities, to find work, to engage in volunteer activities, and to be a vital part of their communities. We are so proud to be able to assist the people we serve with the transportation that they need, but there are so many more of our citizens who lack access to adequate transportation in order to keep and maintain work, participate in community activities, attend medical appointments, or even just to go to a park or a movie. Those who live alone or with their families may not be able to afford adequate transportation, and public transportation in this area is hard to come by. It seems that each year, the budget for people who need assistance is cut more, while the number of people who need assistance keeps growing.
A vehicle equipped to accommodate those with special needs would be a godsend to so many individuals and families. Thank you so much for your support!"
The 100 Cars for Good campaign ran from Oct. 1 – Nov. 19 and five finalists per day were eligible to win a new vehicle. Then each day for 50 consecutive days, Toyota announced two winning organizations that received the highest number of votes from the public at www.100carsforgood.com.
Thanks to a large and passionate group of supporters, L.S.R.C. was one of the organizations that won a new vehicle from Toyota.
LaFontaine Toyota in Dearborn, Michigan was the dealership chosen to deliver the 2014 Toyota Sienna Mobility Van to the L.S.R.C.
The presentation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at LaFontaine Toyota -- 2027 S. Telegraph Road, Dearborn.
