‘Mittens for Detroit' launches effort to collect winter supplies for children and adults

DETROIT – Mittens for Detroit on Friday kicked off its fourth year of collecting winter supplies for children and adults.

The collection runs until Feb. 28, 2014.

The group partnered with Detroit Public Schools to give 6,200 new texting gloves to reward students in 11th and 12th grade for staying in school.

MFD founder Erin Cummings delivered the gloves, made possible by financial support from Live Nation and Equality for a Cause, to various places on Friday as part of the launch.

MFD was founded by Cummings in 2010 and has collected more than 40,000 pairs of gloves and mittens for residents in need.
