Eminem credited with new word added to Oxford Dictionary

'Stan' now defined by rapper Eminem

DETROIT – Eminem is now Oxford approved.

The word "Stan" was added to the Oxford Dictionary and it is defined by Eminem, who had a hit song in 2000 with that title, which followed a crazed fan writing letters.

Oxford defines "Stan" as a noun, "An overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity," and as a verb, "Be an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity."

The origin is listed as: "Early 21st century: probably with allusion to the 2000 song “Stan” by the American rapper Eminem, about an obsessed fan."
