Kraft Foods warns of possible Velveeta shortage

High demand for Valveeta is major factor in shortage

DETROIT – Kraft Foods is warning consumers about a coming Velveeta shortage that could leave shelves across America empty of their favorite cheese-like product.

"It is possible consumers in any part of the country may not be able to find some Velveeta products on store shelves over the next couple of weeks," Kraft spokeswoman Jody Moore told NBC News.

Moore said "higher demand" and "a combination of factors" led to the supply chain issues. "But nothing like a polar vortex."

This news probably doesn't bode well for your Super Bowl party plans, but the good news is that the shortage hasn't been noticed outside of New York. Yet.

"This is really a short-term issue that's more noticeable right now given the increased seasonal demand," said Kraft's Moore, who noted that the company hasn't heard any complaints from consumers. "This is really something that would likely have gone unnoticed at any other time of year."
