A spooky tour of Detroit’s haunted history

You’ll never see the Masonic Temple the same way again!

Sometimes the scariest stories are the ones rooted in real life - like ghost stories based on real historical events. Detroit is full of history and urban legends from the Witch of Delray to the Marche du Nain Rouge.

To learn a bit more about Detroit’s haunted history, we turned to Bailey Sisoy-Moore, the Executive Director of Detroit History Tours. For the season they have a Historically Haunted Detroit bus tour as well as a Dastardly Detroit walking tour that covers the darker side of Detroit History.

Reporter Michelle Oliver got a chance to go on a sample of the Historically Haunted Detroit Tour and showed us some iconic Detroit spots in a whole new light. The first stop was the Ambassador Bridge which actually used to be painted a black matte color called “black cat.” Stories of the bridge being haunted date back almost to it’s start. People claim to see a guy walking in a tweed coat and top hat.

Next, they stopped by the Masonic Temple where they learned the story behind the architect who built it. You can still see his visage today etched into the stone grotesque.
