Detroit artist creates own version of 'Birthday Song'

He recently opened for a legendary Detroit group

During a recent appearance on “Live in the D,” Detroit singer Hassan Watkins told host Tati Amare, there are several artists he gets inspiration from, like Stevie Wonder and Sam Cooke, but he compares his sound to Terrance Trent D’arby. He said he has a lot of smooth vibes in his music.

Those vibes have taken him far in his career, he spoke about recently opening up for the legendary R & B group the Dramatics. “Coming up I always looked up to them, I thought they were a great group from Detroit,” Watkins said. He has new music out, and performed his single “Birthday Love.”
