Get ready for an action-packed weekend in the D

Events are filled with everything from books to bourbon and foolish fun

People are hyped up for Tigers Opening Day on Friday, but that’s not all that’s happening around Detroit this weekend.

You can also raise a glass at the fourth annual Royal Oak Bourbon Fest. Guests can sample whiskeys and hard to find bourbons at the Royal Oak Farmers Market. If you don’t love bourbon, you can drink beer, wine and other spirits. It’s also a chance to enjoy live music, food trucks, and more fun. Royal Oak Bourbon Fest is happening Saturday, April 6th. Tickets are still available for the second session of the night, which starts at 8:30 p.m. You have to be 21 and up to say cheers to this event.

The creativity will be flowing at the Detroit International Festival of Animation. The festival is set to showcase nearly 30 selections of animated shorts from around the world. It’s all happening Saturday, April 6th at the historic Senate Theater in Detroit. Doors open at 7 p.m. and showtime begins at 8 p.m. Admission will cost you 10 dollars.

There’s something new coming to downtown Grosse Pointe this weekend. The Main Street Mini Masters is bringing golf to Kercheval Avenue. The special tournament will feature 18 holes of putt-putt golf. Along with golf, there will be swag bags and a hot dog lunch for participants. The Main Street Mini Masters will be held Saturday, April 6th. Tickets are 50 dollars for a family foursome or 100 bucks for an adult foursome. Tickets can be purchased online.

Foolish fun will fill Ann Arbor this weekend when some color festivals return to town. FoolMoon will feature light-filled art on Washington Street. Participants are encouraged to bring luminaries. This year’s theme is Fool Bloom. FoolMoon is set to start Friday, April 5th at 8 p.m. The fun continues in Ann Arbor on Sunday with another festival. FestiFools is a parade that will fill Main Street with giant puppets. The parade is scheduled to start Sunday, April 7th at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, readers can get ready to dive into a good book this weekend. You can browse the selection at Bookstock, which is described as Detroit’s biggest used book and media sale. Bookstock will run from Sunday, April 7th through April 14th at Laurel Park Place in Livonia.
