Warmer weather is here and so is kitten season

How to help kittens in your community

With the spring season, it also means kitten season is here. Michigan Humane says there is an increase of new born kittens seen in shelters this time of year, and AnnMarie Chamberlain with Michigan Humane appeared on “Live in The D” to talk about how you can help this kitten season.

When it comes to the warmer weather impacting the kitten population, Chamerlain said, “It;s just the time of year where mama cats start to have their babies, and so a lot of them are going to be outdoor cats or feral cats.”

“A healthy litter of kittens don’t necessarily need to be messed with,” she said. It is important to note that the mother will spend about 6-8 hours hunting for food and then will come back to take care of them. If they look cold, dirty, sick, or making a lot of noise, that’s when something is wrong and when you should call a local rescue or Michigan Humane in the city of Detroit.

Also on “Live In The D” today, Chamberlain brought in Minx a kitty about one-year-old who is well behaved, sweet, rambunctious, and looking for a loving home. The Mike Morse Law Firm will pay the standard adoption fees for whoever adopts this week’s pet of the week.
