Special award handed out at Bookstock

Detroit 4th grader wins B.E.S.T Awards

Reading and writing is being celebrated during the annual Bookstock used book and media sale, and a young Detroit student is grabbing special attention with his skills.

Damir Archer, a fourth grader at Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary in Detroit, is the big winner of this year’s B.E.S.T Awards. Students were asked to write essays about their favorite books. Damir wrote his essay about a book titled Weirdo. As the winner, Damir earned $750 for his school, $500 for his teacher, and $150 to keep for himself.

The B.E.S.T Awards are part of Bookstock, which is a giant used book and media sale held each year at Laurel Park Place in Livonia. Bookstock runs until April 14th. Watch the video above to meet Damir and his teacher.
