Even if you can’t adopt a pet you can still volunteer

Celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Week by giving your time

If you have a pet, chances are you consider them a part of the family, but not everyone can have pets, for various reasons. If you’re unable to adopt a furry friend, there are ways you can still be a part of a pet’s life, and help them find a forever home.

As we celebrate volunteer appreciation week, Michigan Humane would like people to know there are plenty of volunteer opportunities with their organization. Representative AnnMarie Chamberlain stopped by “Live in the D” to chat about how people can help out.

“Our volunteers are really the foundation of our organization, they put in hundreds of hours every week,” Chamberlain said. She said if you don’t have a lot of time to dedicate, you can offers the time you have, or make a donation.

She said there are different ways people can offer their services at the shelter including washing dishes, doing laundry, and taking dogs for a walk. Of course adoption is always an option, but if you’re not ready for the commitment, Michigan Humane has an overnight option where you can take a pet home for a night or weekend.

Chamberlain brought a very friendly, 1 year old long hair cat with her who’s available for adoption. The Mike Morse Law Firm will pay the standard adoption fee for who ever adopts today’s pet of the week.
