Gas prices dropped about 24 cents from last week, AAA Michigan reports. Michigan's current statewide average is about $2.23 per gallon, about 24 cents less than last week's average and about $1 less than this same time last year.
This is the sixth week in a row that statewide average weekly gas prices have dropped.

The current Metro Detroit average is about $2.25 per gallon, down about 24 cents from last week and about 96 cents less than this same time last year.

Of the cities surveyed by AAA , the cheapest price for self-serve unleaded fuel can be found in the Flint area, where it's about $2.07 a gallon.
The highest average is in the Marquette area at about $2.46 a gallon.
According to the most recent available weekly AAA report:
· The national average price at the pump has fallen nearly 25 percent since the start of the year, and if the global price of crude continues to register new multiyear lows, these lower prices are likely to persist.
· Concerns of sluggish global oil demand combined with abundant supply continue to leave global oil markets searching for a bottom.
· Barring any unexpected spikes in global prices, or declines in domestic production, the price at the pump should remain relatively low approaching the New Year and into 2015.
