1 person dead, another injured in Southwest Detroit house fire

A 27-year-old man was killed, and a 40-year-old man was injured in a house fire in Southwest Detroit, according to the Detroit Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to a house on Western Street near St. Stephens Street at 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

Firefighters said they saw smoke and flames coming from the second floor of the home.

The two males were already outside when firefighters arrived.

They were taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital for smoke inhalation and burns, firefighters said.

The 27-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The arson squad is on the scene.
