Oxford shooter’s parents move closer to appeal following manslaughter convictions

Appeals process still in early stages

DETROIT – James and Jennifer Crumbley are taking the next steps to appeal their guilty verdicts.

It comes after the two were sentenced to 10-15 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter. The parents of the Oxford High School shooter were convicted in two separate trials for their roles in the Nov. 30, 2021, shooting that left four children dead and seven people injured. Jurors found them guilty of gross negligence that contributed to the mass shooting carried out by their son.

The Crumbley parents are no longer at the Oakland County Jail and have since been moved to a more permanent prison facility. Jennifer Crumbley will be serving out her sentence at Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Ypsilanti, and James Crumbley is serving his at the Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility in Ionia. Both are expected to be in prison until 2036, but they could be released as early as 2031.

Officials confirmed the Crumbley parents have both appointed counsel and plan to file appeals. It’s still in the early stages.

Further details will be revealed as we learn more.
