Standoff in Dearborn Heights ends with arrest of man who threatened father, 4-year-old son with rifle

Homeowner faces several charges

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – Mark Denis Grzybowski, 63, of Dearborn Heights, has been charged with assaulting a 31-year-old Detroit man and his 4-year-old son.

The incident occurred on Saturday (April 27) at 1:27 p.m. in the 24000 block of Eton Street in Dearborn Heights when officials say Grzybowski pointed a rifle at the man and his child who were performing yard work at a neighboring residence before barricading himself in his home.

“As I’m showing my son how to use the blower, like we’re coming from the backyard into the front, and I just look to the left, he got the rifle pointed right at me and my son,” said Breyon Woods. “He said last year we left stuff on his driveway, and this year, we’re not going to do it.”

Officials say there was a four-hour standoff involving multiple agencies that got Grzybowski to exit his home and placed him under arrest.

The 63-year-old man was charged Monday afternoon in 20th district court and given a $50,000 cash bond with a GPS tether.

The probable cause conference is scheduled for May 8, and the preliminary exam is scheduled for May 15.
