Police said they identified the truck as a black 2020 Ram truck, which they found parked and unoccupied at a storage lot in Shelby Township on Monday, May 6. The owner of the Ram was reportedly out of state during the time of the hit-and-run and police were able to connect a 35-year-old man who lived in the area to the crash.

Police made contact with the suspected driver the next day, Tuesday, May 7, who reportedly confirmed he was involved in the crash to investigators.

Savion Jones was charged Thursday, May 9, with failing to stop at the scene of a crash resulting in death. Police said he has a prior fraud conviction and was charged as a habitual second offender. His bond was set at $200,000 cash/surety.

If released, he will be required to wear a GPS tether.
