When he got to the scene, the MHS rescue driver was told that one dog had died while another was struggling to breathe.

The dog, named Curtis, is a 6-month-old pit bull. He was covered in ice from the spray of the fire hose.

The rescue driver rushed the dog to the Animal Care hospital to be examined by a veterinarian.

The examination showed that Curtis had suffered from smoke inhalation. After being treated and receiving vaccinations, Curtis has fully recovered and is now waiting to be adopted.

Interested adopters can visit the MHS Detroit Center for Animal Care at 7401 Chrysler Drive or call 313-872-3400.
