DETROIT -

Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh has worked hard at losing 60 pounds over the past 12 months.

Pugh, in a 48-minute video posted Friday on his personal website, revealed how he lost the weight.

Pugh says he lost weight by changing his diet, working out and refusing to hide his weight behind the generous folds of a bulky suit coat.

"This is not about my abs," he said. "This is about a health crisis that nobody in the city of Detroit is talking about. The Michigan Department of Community Health says that 70 percent of Detroiters are either overweight or obese. That means that seven out of ten of us have some issue with our weight.

"So that means this issue is bigger than crime, which we seem to be focused on. Crime is an issue, but our health is a bigger issue."
