2 Ohio natives named Michigan football captains

Jake Butt, Chris Wormley named football captains

All American tight end Jake Butt and defensive end Chris Wormley were named captains for the Michigan football team Friday.

The seniors were selected by their teammates after coming to Ann Arbor from Buckeye country -- Butt from Pickerington, Ohio and Wormley from Toledo, Ohio.

"Growing up, I always dreamed of playing college football, but never could have imagined what it would be like," Butt posted on Twitter Friday night. "As a junior in high school I committed to my dream school and never looked back. I got to Michigan with high hopes and expectations, knowing it was an historic program and an excellent institution, but never could have imagined what I'd experience. Nearly four years later, my teammates have elected me and Chris Wormley captains. It's truly the highest honor I have received (and probably ever will receive) in my life."

Butt caught 51 passes for 654 yards and three touchdowns last year, cementing himself as one of the top tight ends in the country.

Wormley emerged as Michigan's best defensive lineman last season, racking up 14.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and 43 tackles.

"I can't think of a better player and person to be selected with than Chris Wormley," Butt said in his post. "I'm extremely honored and humbled to represent this team and the University of Michigan."

Wormley also took to Twitter to announce the news, saying, "It's an honor to represent Michigan football with Jake Butt as co-captains for the team this year."

They started in Ohio, but now they're leading the Michigan football team.
