Yzerman was the cornerstone of the Red Wings' rebirth. The team's captain for almost 20 years, he led the Wings to three Stanley Cups. Yzerman also scored 692 goals during his career. Only eight players scored more.
His long-time teammate, and successor as Wings' captain, Nick Lidstrom won four Stanley Cups with the Wings and an incredible seven Norris Trophies as the NHL's top defenseman. He was also the first European player to win the Conn Smythe Award as the Stanley Cup playoff MVP in 2002.
