Gordie Howe dies at 88

DETROIT – The famous commercial series for ESPN's SportsCenter featured Gordie Howe in 1996.

The commercials feature athletes interacting with ESPN staff, as if they're also a part of the production.

Gordie Howe starred in this 1996 spot, which shows Howe trying to explain old hockey to former ESPN sportscaster Keith Olbermann.

The legendary Detroit Red Wings player Gordie Howe has died. He was 88.

In Detroit, he is a legend. He won the Stanley Cup with the Red Wings four times, won six Hart Trophies as the league's most valuable player, and won six Art Ross Trophies as the leading scorer during his time with Detroit between 1946 and 1971.

Last year, Howe's family said he underwent stem cell treatment after he suffered a stroke. The family said he had a "miraculous" recovery after he underwent the treatment.
