The Michigan Wolverines are ranked No. 3 in the first College Football Playoff rankings, which were released by the committee Tuesday night.

Michigan is 8-0 with wins over three teams ranked in the top 15 of the College Football Playoff poll -- No. 8 Wisconsin, No. 12 Penn State and No. 15 Colorado. The Wolverines also impressed during their games against unranked teams, winning by an average of over 50 points.

Last year, Michigan opened the CFP rankings as the No. 17 team in the country. The Wolverines climbed to No. 10 in the Week 13 rankings before falling to Ohio State and landing at No. 15 before bowl selections. Michigan finished the 2015 season as the No. 14 team in the CFP rankings.

The Wolverines are one of five undefeated teams in the country -- Alabama, Clemson, Washington and Western Michigan -- and the last remaining undefeated team in the Big Ten.

Michigan is ranked No. 2 in both the Associated Press and Coaches polls.
