Reports: Tigers select Brad Ausmus as team's new manager

Ausmus would replace the recently retired Jim Leyland

DETROIT – Media reports say the Tigers have picked the person to fill the team's managerial shoes left vacant by Jim Leyland.

According to numerous reports, former Major League Baseball player Brad Ausmus has been tapped to be the team's next skipper.

Ausmus played catcher for the Tigers in 1996, as well as 1999 - 2000.

The 44-year-old is currently working in the front office of the San Diego Padres.

Ausmus is expected to be in Detroit Sunday to finalize the deal.
