Ellen Tomek was raised in Flushing, Michigan and also attended the University of Michigan. Tomek previously made an appearance in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and placed 5th in double sculls. Tomeck also has many years of experience competing in the World Championships. This summer will be her second time as a part of Team USA as she competes in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
