Red Wings' 25-season playoff streak could end tonight

DETROIT – A regulation loss from the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday night combined with a Boston Bruins win and a point from the Toronto Maple Leafs will end Detroit's playoff streak at 25 seasons.
This should be no surprise to anyone following the Red Wings this season. They have been out of the playoff picture for months. However, it can become official Tuesday night.

The Red Wings have 74 points and 7 games left on the schedule. Toronto has 85 points with 8 games remaining and Boston has 84 points with 7 games remaining. If Toronto and Boston both get to 86 points Tuesday night and the Red Wings don't earn a point, the Wings are out.
The Red Wings play the second of back-to-back games against the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday night in Raleigh. The Wings won, 4-3, in overtime Monday night.
The Red Wings actually have been winning more than losing this month -- they are 6-3-1 in their past 10 games. But it's too little, too late.
