Red Wings' Frans Nielsen named to NHL All-Star Game roster

DETROIT – Detroit Red Wings forward Frans Nielsen has been named to the 2017 NHL All-Star roster. 

Nielsen will be the only Red Wings player making the trip for the game Jan. 29 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Nielsen, who the Red Wings signed as a free agent in the off-season, has 8 goals and 14 assists in 40 games this season. The 32-year-old has been heralded as a strong two-way center, but he's a -12 with the Red Wings this year.

Meanwhile, the Red Wings are on a western road trip in which they've gone 1-2 so far. They visit the Blackhawks Tuesday night.
