ROCHESTER, Mich. – The No. 2 seeded Detroit Titans (9-6-4) men's soccer team will start off the Horizon League semi final action at 4:30 p.m. Thursday against No. 3 seeded Wright State (11-6-2) at the Oakland Soccer Stadium in Rochester.

Oakland is the No. 1 seed and was selected as the host for the finals.

The Titans won the league championship once (1996) and have reached the championship game six times in the past. They last played in the tournament in 2012 when they were the No. 1 seed and fell to No. 6 seeded Loyola in the semi finals.

Despite Detroit being expected -- in the preseason poll -- to be tied for 7th place in the Horizon League this year after going 0-7 in league action in 2013, they had a six-win league 2014 season with 18 points and earned a share of the title with Oakland. Detroit is the No. 2 seed because they lost in regular season action to Oakland. The tie goes to the Grizzlies' favor and they were awarded the No. 1 spot and home-field advantage.

In their history against Wright State, Detroit is 11-14-2. Thw Titans beat Wright State in a regular season matchup this year, 2-1.

Goalkeeper Nathan Steinwasher is looking to help his team move onto the finals on Saturday by continuing his standout regular season. The All-Horizon First Team honored Goalkeeper of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year is the first player in Horizon League history to be named to both in one year.

Freshman of the Year, Spiro Pliakos, also was named to the All-Horizon First Team and his senior teammates Matt Ybarra and Trevor Flynn were each named to the All-Conference Second Team.

The Titans look to continue to prove the preseason polls wrong by continuing their drive for the championship finals with a win over Wright State.

Game admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12-and-under. Students of Horizon League schools get into all of the games for free with their student ID cards.
