Waza Flo try to regroup against Chicago Saturday

Detroit: 3-6 this season

DETROIT – The Detroit Waza Flo are coming off of a hard-fought weekend that included back-to-back losses in Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) matches against St. Louis and Chicago.

The Waza Flo (3-6) kept the game close despite traveling with a light roster to St. Louis (2-4), falling to the Ambush 7-6.

Detroit then drove straight to Chicago (3-4)  for a matchup the next day. A few players tried to make the traveling easier by driving from Detroit to Chicago that day, but it took its toll as Detroit fell to Chicago in rare form, 15-4.

Detroit returns more determined than ever as it tries to show fans that they will not be the same team that Chicago saw last weekend. The Waza Flo have suffered their share of injuries and limited rosters when traveling, so the home games are important in proving just how this team can truly play. They are a tough team that just beat Syracuse, a former MISL team, and lost to Rochester in OT by just one point.

Head Coach, Costea Decu, "The Count," has also been named to the MASL team of the week twice in his inaugural season.

One strategy The Count and Owner Dominic Scicluna have taken in revamping their squad is adding a new goalie for Saturday night's game against the Mustangs. Tony Halterman is a former standout DePauw University goalkeeper who helped the school win back-to-back NCAC Conference Championships in 2011 and 2012. He also set a new school record for wins in 2011.

Halterman played with the Kitsap Pumas in the Professional Development League (PDL) and most recently with the Evergreen Diplomats in the American Soccer League (ASL).

This is a can't-miss matchup Saturday, as Scicluna and company look to redeem their Waza Flo technique and style of winning.

Game time: Saturday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Melvindale Civic Arena (4300 S Dearborn St, Melvindale, MI 48122)

The Waza Flo are offering fans another can't-miss opportunity off the field, as Detroit hopes fans can help the team give back to the community and help those in need by donating to Gleaners.

This food drive will provide help to families in need in the downriver community. Fans will receive discounted tickets with each item donated. For each nonperishable food item given to Gleaners, a child will receive $4 off the ticket price, and for each separate item, an adult will get $5 off in pricing.

Normal ticket prices are $12 for adults and $8 for children ages 3-12. They can be purchased online by visiting the team's official website. For more information, you can visit the MASL website or watch all the MASL games live here.
