Semi truck fire closes all lanes of northbound I-75 after I-696 in Oakland County

Freeway will be shutdown for several hours

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A semi-truck fire has closed all lanes of northbound I-75 after I-696 in Oakland County.

The fire occurred Thursday (Aug. 3) around 6:10 p.m. between northbound I-75 and Lincoln Avenue in the City of Royal Oak.

The Detroit Regional Communication Center said they received a call about a semi-truck crash.

When troopers arrived on the scene, they said the truck had contained hot asphalt, causing it to catch fire.

The Royal Oak Fire Department said they were able to extinguish the fire. MDOT was notified of the damage to a median wall that occurred due to the fire.

The freeway remains shut down, and no injuries or other vehicles were involved.
