SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A Michigan State Police trooper was seriously hurt Monday morning after his vehicle was struck from behind while stopped along a Detroit-area freeway.
Eastbound Interstate 696 was closed near the Lodge Freeway for the crash investigation. It reopened at 10:45 a.m.
MSP said the trooper was at the scene of an earlier crash compiling a report when his patrol car was struck. He suffered five broken ribs.

Trooper Update: The trooper from the 696 crash has sustained five broken ribs and they are still evaluating him. He will be admitted.
