Hall Road reconstruction project begins

Construction on Hall Road in Macomb County has begun. 

A spokeswoman for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) said digging for the project, which was expected to get underway Wednesday, will have to be delayed for a week, but all other parts of the construction project are underway.

The $60 million reconstruction project for the heavily-traveled road between M-53 and Garfield Road will mean this for drivers: 

• Three lanes will be open in each direction between east of M-53 and Romeo Plank Road daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., except for the M-59 bridge over M-53, which will have only two lanes open in each direction from March through mid-summer 2017.
• Work will occur day and night.

The 3.7-mile stretch is expected to be under construction for about a year and 1/2. 

"I would say many drivers that take that route understand why we have to do it," MDOT spokeswoman Diane Cross told Local 4. "They themselves have a tough ride with the potholes and just the condition of the roadway. Everyone knows it needs work."
