Tracking more rain chances as temps drop in Metro Detroit

Some rain coming Thursday before drier weekend

4Warn Weather – It’s a mild start to your Thursday morning as we wake up to temperatures in the 50s.

Skies will be partly sunny to mostly cloudy today. If you are heading out to Comerica Park for Tigers’ day game, expect low to mid-60s through game time. Conditions will be a little breezy, but dry.

Highs will be in the mid and upper 60s for most today.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:19 p.m.

Additional showers will work their way into the area around midnight and into Friday morning as another cold front passes.

More showers, then drier weekend

Early morning showers are expected on Friday. A line of showers will begin approaching the region around 11 p.m. Thursday and will become widespread in Metro Detroit between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m.

There may even be a few heavy downpours or a rumble of thunder. This rain will move out by the morning commute, though.

Temperatures will struggle to reach 60 degrees on Friday in the wake of the cold front. This weekend will be even chillier, but dry.

Expect low 50s on Saturday with breezy conditions. We’ll see the upper 50s on Sunday with a mix of sun and clouds through the weekend.

What’s coming next week

We’re looking at a seasonal start to the next work week. For those planning to do outdoor volunteering on Earth Day on Monday, expect mostly sunny skies and low 60s.

We’ll briefly dip back into the 50s midweek with rain likely by Tuesday afternoon. We’ll warm back up into the 60s for the NFL Draft in Downtown Detroit late next week.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, the severe weather threat shifts to the southern Plains, middle Mississippi and lower Ohio Valley on Thursday. Showers, thunderstorms, and cooler weather is expected for much of the southern Plains on Friday.

Meanwhile, a much cooler airmass north will bring a possible wintry mix into the central high Plains. Unseasonably warm conditions are expected for much of the southern United States. Chillier weather expands across the northern Rockies/Plains and upper Midwest.
