Severe storms may bring strong winds, hail to Metro Detroit: What to know

Tuesday afternoon thunderstorms may be severe

4Warn Weather – We will have a sunny start to our Tuesday. Then, clouds will increase through the day with a chance for strong-to-severe storms this evening.

Highs will rise to either side of 70 degrees this afternoon before any severe weather rolls in.

We will likely see a wave of showers between 3-5 p.m. across Southeast Michigan. Then, the chance for severe storms will last between 6 p.m.-11 p.m.

Isolated or scattered strong-to-severe thunderstorms are possible this evening, particularly for those south of a line from Midland to Port Huron. The greatest chances for severe weather will be along and south of the I-94 corridor.

Severe storms could bring hazardous conditions. Damaging winds, large hail up to an inch in diameter, isolated tornadoes and flooding are possible. Damaging wind gusts are the primary threat.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:40 p.m.

Most of the wet weather should be out of here by midnight.

Warmer Wednesday before more rain

Warm and breezy conditions are expected on Wednesday. Highs will be around 80 degrees, and we’ll stay dry.

Cooler conditions will follow, however. High temps will fall nearly 20 degrees on Thursday, landing in the 60s.

Rain chances return on Thursday, though no severe weather is expected at this point. We’re expecting just rain, as of Tuesday.

Temps will stay in the 60s Thursday through the weekend, with a gradual warm-up to follow. More rain is possible this weekend.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, there is an enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Ohio Valley on Tuesday and over parts of the Southern Plains, Mississippi Valley, and Ohio/Tennessee Valleys on Wednesday. Meanwhile, heavy snow persists over the higher elevations of the northern Rockies.
