More rain, temps to plummet in Metro Detroit after midweek heat

Highs should reach 80 on Wednesday

4Warn Weather – After a rocky evening of severe weather across portions of Lower Michigan yesterday -- especially for those in southwest Michigan -- we will generally see warm and gusty conditions on this Wednesday.

Highs will get close to 80 degrees today, although this warm up is brief.

West wind gusts will be around 30 mph this afternoon. The day will be mainly sunny.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:41 p.m.

Clouds will increase later tonight.

Temps drop Thursday

A low pressure system will move across the Ohio Valley on Thursday, providing us with higher rain chances.

By 7 a.m. Thursday, we’ll have a line of showers start to move in from the west. Showers will be scattered and will expand northward through the morning.

More widespread showers are expected across Metro Detroit by noon.

Showers will continue to push east throughout the afternoon. By 5 p.m., we anticipate showers will remain for those more south and those furthest east in our region. Those in our more northern communities will likely begin drying out at this time.

Showers should move out by 7 p.m. or 8 p.m., and we’ll start to peel back some cloud cover.

We also anticipate a big drop in temperatures on Thursday: We’ll be nearly 20 degrees cooler with highs struggling to reach 60 degrees.

Rain chances for Mother’s Day weekend

Relatively cool conditions will last into the weekend. Highs will remain in the 60s through Sunday, though they’ll be in the upper 60s for Mother’s Day on Sunday.

The next chance for rain is expected on Saturday. Showers are expected to begin by 8 a.m.-9 a.m., and will stick around throughout the entire day, even into the evening.

We’ll dry out by Sunday, though, with some seasonal sunshine on tap.

Highs will reach back into the 70s next week.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, there is a risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Mississippi Valley and Ohio/Tennessee Valleys on Wednesday, and over parts of the southern Plains on Thursday. Meanwhile, we will likely see heavy snow over the higher elevations of the northern Rockies on Wednesday.
