Another round of snow Friday afternoon

Some snow to make the Friday PM commute tricky

DETROIT – A clipper is on the way with more wintry weather for Detroit and Southern Lower Michigan.

Friday afternoon will be cloudy and chilly until about 3pm. Soon after children hear the final school bell, a wintry mix and light snow will move in or develop overhead depending on the temperatures.

Areas south of 8 Mile Road, including Detroit, wil have temps near 40. Neighborhoods north of the city will be in the 30s.

Either way, streets, highways and sidewalks will become wet and slick between 3pm and 6pm.

During the dinner hour and afterward all of Southeast Michigan becomes colder and thus snowier.

Light to moderate snow will fall for Friday evening and Friday night. Anyone with plans to hit the town will encounter slushy roads with some icy spots.

Accumulations will be on the light side by early Saturday morning.

Based on the path of the system, 1 to 3 inches will fall in the middle of the Detroit area bounded by the state border to the south and M-59 to the north.

Cities such as Howell, Pontiac, Mt. Clemens and Ann Arbor southward will be in the 2 to 3 inches category by dawn, Saturday.

Communities north of M-59 will generally see 1 to 2 inches.

Saturday will have some leftover snow showers, especially in the morning, that may dump an extra inch. Any snow that falls will not melt anytime soon. It remains cold for the last full weekend of Winter with Saturday afternoon highs only near 35.

St. Patrick's Day, Sunday will be sunnier but just about as chilly with highs in the mid 30s.

For anyone craving Spring, it begins at 7:02 ET, next Wednesday, March 20th. Anyone starving for Spring-like weather will have to wait a bit longer though.
