Cool, crisp Thursday morning

Highs near 75

DETROIT – The next couple of days may not be as hot as Detroiters expect in summer, but they will look gorgeous.

Thursday morning will be chilly and crisp with clear skies. Temperatures will be in the upper 40s and low 50s. Kids going to summer camp will need jackets or long-sleeve shirts ready to be tied around the waist later in the day.

Thursday afternoon will be mild by typical Motor City summer standards with highs near 75 degrees (5 to 10 degrees below average). Skies will be mostly sunny. Tigers' fans going to Comerica Park for the game against the Pirates will need to apply sun block.

Thursday evening will offer a lovely sunset for couples' dinner or walk-by-the-water plans. Temperatures will be near 70 degrees.

Thursday night may have record-tying or -setting low temperatures under fair skies. By Friday morning, the mercury will fall to 50 degrees or less. Friday's record low temperature is 46 degrees, set in 1979.

Friday will be mostly sunny and a bit warmer with highs in the middle and upper 70s. Weather will be perfect for another Tigers win; this time against the Seattle Mariners. The start of the Susan G. Komen 3 Day will have mostly sunny skies, too.

Saturday and Sunday will be warm with highs in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees each day. However, scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible each day. Families coming downtown to the Wright Museum for the African World Festival or going to the MIS for the Pure Michigan 400 will need to have umbrellas and ponchos at the ready. Dry weather returns next Monday.
