Freezing rain advisory in effect for parts of SE Michigan

DETROIT – A freezing rain advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. Thursday for parts of southeast Michigan. 

From the National Weather Service: 

Periods of freezing drizzle are expected to continue through the morning commute. An area of precipitation will then lift northeastward and impact portions of southeastern Michigan between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The precipitation will fall as a wintry mix of light freezing rain and possibly some sleet between the Interstate 96 and Interstate 69 corridors. With temperatures falling below freezing, residual moisture from prior precipitation will also freeze on area surfaces. A light ice glazing is possible during the morning commute, with light ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch from the mid morning hours into the early afternoon. Drizzle will quickly freeze on untreated or less traveled surfaces during the morning commute. It only takes a small amount of ice to create treacherous conditions. Use extreme caution this morning. Slow down and give allow extra time to reach your destination. precautionary/preparedness actions -- a freezing rain advisory means that periods of freezing rain or freezing drizzle will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads. slow down and use caution while driving.  

Local 4 Meteorologist Brandon Roux said temperatures are dropping fast Thursday morning.

More showers are possible with moisture riding along that frontal boundary this morning and the biggest concern is the potential for ice in our North Zone as this could be a wintry mix including freezing rain and drizzle at times. Most of us are too warm at the surface for ice. Temps should fall into the 30s through the late afternoon as conditions dry out. Winds today WNW 5-15 mph.
