High wind warning in SE Michigan: 50-60 mph gusts expected

DETROIT – Conditions will go from breezy this morning, to gusty and blustery this afternoon.

All of SE Lower Michigan is under a High Wind Warning late morning through sunset and that means damaging winds are very likely.

VIEW OUTAGE MAP: Power outages today in Metro Detroit due to strong wind

These are non-storm winds as temps will be near 50 degrees and we will see some decent sunshine today. Those winds WSW 15-30 mph through the morning will become WSW 30-40 mph gusting 50-60 mph at times which is enough to knock down trees, tree limbs, and debris will be flying around all day.

This makes travel very tricky as well so be very alert on the roads. We will likely be dealing with power outages through the afternoon and evening and there’s a cold front on the way.

Thursday forecast:

A cold front coming through means cooler temps Thursday starting in the 20s and warming to near 40 degrees with increasing clouds and a slight chance for a light rain and/or snow shower or two late afternoon. One model brings a round of showers in later around midnight into early Friday laying down a quick inch of snow in a few spots by Friday morning.

Cold air is sinking in Friday through Sunday and the winds will be a bit too breezy Friday for our liking. Temps start in the 20s and only make it into the low 30s with winds NW 10-20 mph making it a wind chilly end to the work and school week. The sun will break through a mix of sun and clouds around Metro Detroit Friday.

Weekend temps will be in the teens to near 30 degrees from lows to highs with no big storms moving in. A big rain/snow maker passes just south of here Saturday as we will see cold sunshine. Same set up for Sunday and as we head into Monday -- snow is on the way. This system could bring a few inches to our area.
