Metro Detroit forecast: Single-digit morning temps

Wind chills will be -5 to -15 degrees

DETROIT – Single digit morning temps coupled with a steady cold wind make the wind chills even more dangerous this morning.

Wind chills will be -5 to -15 degrees and can lead to frostbite and hypothermia if you are not layered up and outside. Clouds and scattered lake effect snow showers through the morning hours and the roads are slick as you head out. We will start to see some sun through the morning and afternoon with highs in the mid teens feeling colder all day with winds W 10-20 mph.

Friday snow

We will start very chilly again tomorrow with slightly lighter winds with wind chills still below zero. We are tracking another snow storm to begin Friday late afternoon or evening. A mix of clouds and sun and 20 degrees before the snow arrives, but it will still feel extra chilly Friday.

The snow should begin in the late afternoon with light snow and a bit more intense Friday night. We should wake up Saturday morning to a range of 3-5” of fresh snow.

Weekend outlook

Then, a surge of warmer air Saturday mid morning could bring some rain, freezing rain, and sleet into the mix. Still many scenarios that could play out but we are warning anyone traveling Saturday to proceed with extreme caution. Freezing rain and sleet could add ice accumulation and cut into snow totals.

But, if this is all snow Saturday, we could see the potential for 5-10 inches Saturday ... again, only if it’s all snow. The wintry mix will at least change back to light snow late Saturday, ending early Sunday. We will keep our eye on this storm as we head through the week.
